Summary:
The Senior Corporate Counsel plays a key role on the company’s Legal TEAm with primary responsibility for the Risk & Regulatory subfunction, including risk management and mitigation, regulatory compliance and legislative/regulatory affairs, and secondary responsibility for other legal subfunctions such as business transactions and governance. Serving as a strategic business partner, Senior Corporate Counsel will lead the incorporation of risk assessment, mitigation and response throughout the company and serve as an active partner in external business policy development to advance the company's goals and objectives, as well as help to build processes, templates, and other mechanisms in support of growth and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the company’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) System (includes Insurance Program, Incident Reporting & Crisis Response).
• Provide oversight and support of Regulatory Compliance throughout the company.
• Monitor, develop strategy and implement tactics to address Prospective Legislation & Regulation, including related Governmental Relations.
• Oversee and guide Dispute Mitigation and Resolution.
• Design strategy and systems, provide advice and develop solutions for all legal aspects of risk management and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate and serve as a strategic business partner with internal business leaders and subject matter experts to ensure that legal aspects are aligned with business objectives and financial outcomes.
• Add value throughout the company by providing sound and timely advice on a variety of legal topics and issues.
• Explain complex topics in a clear, easy to understand, manner with the appropriate level of detail for the audience and issue at hand.
• Promote the legal team’s goals and objectives throughout the company.
• Create and deliver efficient legal support processes and training for the business on all levels including enterprise, function and individual.
• Support the chief legal officer and other legal subfunctions as needed.
Supervisory :
• This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
• J.D. from an accredited law school and in good standing with a recognized state bar organization.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in private practice and/or in-house counsel role.
• 3+ years of experience leading teams and individuals.
• Well-organized and detail-oriented with outstanding work ethic and time management skills; should be able to independently manage and successfully prioritize numerous projects under competing deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable receiving and giving feedback and direction from/to others.
• Consistently demonstrates exemplary professional judgement and leverages creativity, resourcefulness and relationships in problem solving.
• Experience and desire to be a leader and a steward of change management as we build operational excellence within the company.
• Fluent with Microsoft Office 365, ability to quickly learn and use other internal tools such as workflow/project management and contract management systems.
• Location within less than 5 hours travel time (driving or air) of Birmingham, Alabama.
